  Continue Button Greyed Out
Posted by: allubera - 01-24-2022, 02:27 PM - Forum: Platform Improvement - Replies (1)

Hello,

I was just previewing a study of mine and noticed that the continue buttons are whited out when they are available instead of turning to their usual orange color. I tested it on a couple experiments and all are doing this.  I attached some images below. Its minor but I think it will confuse participants.

Best,
Amber

  allowing dropouts to re-enter study
Posted by: bisserai - 01-24-2022, 09:19 AM - Forum: Study Grammar & Management - Replies (5)

Hi all,
I've got a couple of sessions running for which i'm pretty certain i ticked the "allow dropouts to do study", however when people are being a bit stupid and despite the instructions try to do the study on their phone for example and then see it doesn't work and try to do it again from a computer, they aren't allowed. Technically they are a dropout because they didn't finish the study the first time around so i don't understand why can't they keep attempting until they finish it given that i've ticked the allow dropouts box.
Also, i think it would be really useful, on the manage study page, i can see the people who finished the study and those who abandoned, and when i click on a participant who abandoned i have the option to send them a compensation. Why can't i have the option to let them try the study again?
Best,
bissera

January Study Grammar Update - 1/18/2022
Posted by: Ting - 01-16-2022, 09:43 PM - Forum: New Study Grammar Features - No Replies

Dear Researchers,

We are excited to announce the availability of the January Grammar Update! Due to the MLK holiday on Monday 1/17/2022, this update will be made first available on our testing server (https://testing.findingfive.com - US server accounts only) on Monday 1/17/2022, and then on the production servers (https://www.findingfive.com or https://eu.findingfive.com) on Tuesday, 1/18/2022.

This January update mostly consists of bug fixes and a minor feature tweak:

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where a text response with a "max_char" setting would require an extra click in the text box before participants could enter their response.
  • Fixed an issue where the duration timer of a choice response continued counting while the choice response displays visual feedback (if feedback is set). The duration timer now stops as soon as a choice is made by participants, before the feedback is shown.
Improvements:
  • Introduce a new "duration_timer_onset" property for customizing when the duration timer appears in responses that have "duration_timer" set to true. By default, the onset is "start" meaning that the duration timer appears as soon as the response is visible. It can be optionally set to "end" so that the timer only appears as a participant response is recorded. The "end" mode may be better suited for typical speeded task setups.
New Features:
  • No major new features are included in this update.
If you have any questions regarding this grammar update, please leave your comments below. Thanks!

  Consent form during preview stage?
Posted by: HF2021 - 01-11-2022, 03:35 PM - Forum: Study Grammar & Management - Replies (1)

Hello, can a consent form be uploaded for a specific study during the preview/testing stage, or only when setting up a session?  When previewing, the first page asks participants to read the consent form, but clicking on it of course won't work since it's not linked to any documents.  Thank you.

  Unable to download experiment data
Posted by: mbreen - 01-11-2022, 03:06 PM - Forum: Platform Improvement - Replies (1)

I ran a study in winter 2020-21, and I am now trying to download the data again. I go to the Sessions page, select 'Finished,' and then choose 'Download data' but I keep getting an error "Unexpected error occurred. Please try again."
Is there any other way I can access these data?
Thank you!

  Image file name changed
Posted by: HF2021 - 01-11-2022, 02:59 PM - Forum: Platform Improvement - Replies (1)

Hi everyone, We just noticed that our images have a set of numbers added to the beginning of their names in the resources pages (and in the "stimuli" section of our study).  For example:
  "type": "image",
  "content": "61815d56f1288d60117e67d4_p1.jpg",
  "width": "50%"

The original file name was p1.jpg.
We're not sure if this is due to the platform update or because we transferred ownership of our program to a different user.  Same thing seems to have happened to our audio files. Everything seems to work fine, other than this addition to all our image and audio file names.  Could you please clarify?  Thanks!

Text box bug after grammar renderer update
Posted by: sten_knutsen - 01-05-2022, 01:34 PM - Forum: Platform Improvement - Replies (3)

In one part of my study, I use multiple text box responses. Before the grammar renderer update, all these behaved perfectly fine. After the update, all of the textbox responses still behave normally, except for one question where I limited the size of the text field using "max_char": 2.
When this particular text field comes up, although there seems to be a cursor focused at the beginning of the text box, the cursor does not respond to any keypress (you can't write anything). However, if I use my mouse, I can highlight the little bit of whitespace in the corner of the text box, and then enter the response.
I removed the character limit for this particular trial, and the problem went away (but the text box was no longer limited to 2 chars). Putting the character limit back in reintroduces the problem.
I'm wondering if, even though I am seeing what looks like a cursor focused in the corner of the "max_char": 2 text box, for some reason, the focus is not automatically being set within the limits of the 2 char text box.
Not a huge deal to me personally (I can really do without the character limit, tbh) but it was working before!

  December Grammar Update - 12/27/2021
Posted by: Ting - 12-21-2021, 12:50 PM - Forum: New Study Grammar Features - No Replies

Dear Researchers,

We are excited to announce the availability of the December Study Grammar update, to be effective on December 27, 2021! For December, we are bringing a host of new features and optimizations:

New Features

  • Beta Support for Safari on MacOS, and all browsers on iOS and PadOS: The FindingFive website is now fully accessible to both participants and researchers using the Safari browser on MacOS as well as all mobile browsers on iOS and PadOS. The support for Apple devices and software is currently in beta, meaning that some bugs may exist.

For participants to be able to use Safari to participate in your study, you must launch a new session.
Existing active sessions are still closed to Safari users, and will only work with Firefox or Chrome on a desktop or laptop.

  • Dark Mode: It is now possible to display trial content using the dark mode (black background and white text) by setting the color scheme of a trial to "dark".

  • Duration timer: It is now possible to display a duration timer for visible responses, indicating how long participants have spent on that response. Please check out the documentation on responses for details.

Bug fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where the visual feedback for clickable images or videos isn't properly displayed
  • Fixed an issue where studies with identical duration settings for the trial and a response within the trial were permitted to run. This setup will result in a so-called racing condition, and is now banned.
Other changes:
  • Internal updates to the text, mouse_reset, mouse_position, and the keypress responses to improve the responsiveness of these responses and the precision of reaction time calculation.
If you have any questions regarding this grammar update, please leave your comments below. Thanks!

  Bot checks
Posted by: edia - 12-13-2021, 04:28 PM - Forum: General Feedback - No Replies

Hello,
I have been collecting the data on FindingFive through MTurk and recently the quality of the data has been pretty low. It would be helpful to be able to install bot-checks at the beginning of the experiment, which would disqualify bots from completing the study!

Your study contains coding errors. . .
Posted by: sten_knutsen - 12-02-2021, 10:14 AM - Forum: Platform Improvement - Replies (9)

So I've seen the error message "Your study contains coding errors we cannot automatically detect yet" before and I've managed to figure out what went wrong. However, I am completely puzzled by this one.
The study in question has already been fully previewed, and I've launched it as a session twice over the past couple of weeks. Worked perfectly fine, collected data. No code was changed.
Just went to preview the study today (want to modify some parts) and I am getting the above error message and I don't understand why. None of the code has been changed, and it had been previously working just fine!

Some additional information. . .

I also tried to start a new session on this study (which should work since I ran two sessions already) and got the error message "You can't launch a new session because 'int' object has no attribute 'replace'"
