fixation cross location using yoked trials |

I have been trying to set up a speeded rating study where sentences are preceded by a fixation cross. The stimuli are tokenized_text sentences and text for the fixation cross.
While it is easy to get a close-to-the-same location for fixation cross and the first word of the sentences, they slightly shift position if I put them on the same trial. In earlier related threads started by other users, you recommended not putting them on the same trial, but going via yoked trials in the procedures section instead.
However, when I try to do this following the tutorial, I run into trouble because the code to explain how it works is made for priming, with equal numbers of stimuli in the primes_template and the targets_template:
"target_prime_lexical_decision_block": {
"trial_templates": ["primes_template", "targets_template"],
"pattern": {"order": "alternate_random", "repeat": 1}
}
In my own study, I only have one stimulus in the trial template "fixation_cross", namely, a fixation cross.
So the study won't run if I replace "primes_template" with "fixation_cross", since there is only one stimulus in this trial template.
Could you recommend a way to specify in the procedures that the single stimulus in the trial template "fixation_cross" needs to be repeated over and over again, until the second trial template is done? Thank you very much in advance.

Audio responces collection: zip only has a .csv |

Dear Colleagues,
In course of trying out my beta study I stumbled upon a problem with collecting data. The experiment should collect audio responses - however, in the final zip-file there's only one (pretty unintelligible) .csv file. No .ogg files, no "value", no "rt". Just that .csv. The question is: where are the actual audio recordings? Am I doing something wrong? My browser is Chrome. Below is the code for my response unit "picturenaming_response":
{
"type": "audio",
"auto_start": true,
"rerecording_allowed": false,
"onset_detection": true
}
Should there be different response units?.. I need people to audially describe the pictures, and the recordings with these descriptions.
Thank you very much for your input!

Study not advancing past first stimuli. . . |

One of my studies (which was just working perfectly fine earlier today) will no longer advance past the first trial -- it just hangs up. I have another study that is almost exactly the same as this study, and it still works fine. I have been going over my code with a fine-tooth comb, and I can't see any reason why it would display the first trial, and then hang up. I've even switched trials around to see if it's just a bad set of stimuli or something -- same problem.
This was on Chrome, but I also tried on Firefox with the same result.

Match response to date |

Hello, we need to match a specific response within a session to the date in which it happened. The results data file doesn't include date information but the list of participants who completed the study does include the start and end date/time information. Is there any way to march those two pieces of information to find the date in which the response was made?

Weird/bad stimuli file behavior |

Tried to update a video file (upload a new, updated video with the same name as the old file to resource files) this afternoon. The file did indeed update in "resource files": clicking on the file from "Resource files" played the new, updated video I uploaded. However, when I went to run my study, the stimuli corresponding to this file was still playing the old file.
I even deleted the file in question from "Resource files" and somehow stimuli corresponding to this file is still playing the old file, even though no such file exists in "resource files"!
I do know that something went wrong earlier this afternoon (505 error between 330-4 pm?), so I am not sure if this has something to do with that event. . . . .
Quick update: Just remembering this particular project was transferred from my personal to lab account, and I was attempting to upload the new file to the lab account. So I went back to my personal account and uploaded the new version there, and it immediately updated the stimuli lab account.
Although it now works, this seems like kind of weird behavior. . . Am I doing something wrong here?

"unexpected error" |

Hi Ting,
I created a language history questionnaire study about a month ago and it ran just fine when I tested it out. I temporarily switched to Qualtrics but came back to my FF version this week. I made a few adjustments to it, but when I run it now I get this error: "Sorry, but we encountered an unexpected error in processing your request."
There are no apparent syntax or logic errors because it will let me launch the study when I press the launch button. Once it gets to the welcome/consent page, that's where I get the error message. I copied the study and launched it from the copied version, and I still got the error. However, none of my other studies are showing the same error, and they do run.
I'm wondering if you have heard of this before, and/or what might be causing the error after launching it when there are no syntax or logic errors before launching it?
Thank you so much!
Grace

Change in participant grouping backend causing new error? |

Hi,
After a summer hiatus, I checked on an experiment last week hoping to start it back up again -- when I ran it in preview mode, it seemed to work just fine. Having made no changes, this week, the preview directs me to a page saying "Sorry, but we encountered an unexpected error upon processing your request." No syntax errors or anything else pop up.
Through process of elimination, it seems like the study preview works fine if I take out the participant grouping option. Was there some kind of recent change to participant grouping that might have caused this change? Or anyone else having a similar issue?
As always, thanks for the great work FF team + community!
Carson
For example that demonstrates the issue, the original procedure looked something like this:
Code: "block_sequence": [
"InstructionBlock",
{"DomFirstSwitch":
{"dex": ["TestingBlockR", "TestingBlockL2"],
"sin": ["TestingBlockL", "TestingBlockR2"]},
"DomFirstCont":
{"dex": ["TestingBlockR", "TestingBlockR2"],
"sin": ["TestingBlockL", "TestingBlockL2"]}
}
]
In the above snippet, the InstructionBlock includes a question asking for handedness (dex/sin), while DomFirstCont and DomFirstSwitch are two participant groups. Code including the participant groups is directed to the error screen (after I select either DomFirstSwitch or DomFirstCont in the preview prompt to choose a group).
Code: "block_sequence": [
"InstructionBlock",
{"dex": ["TestingBlockR", "TestingBlockL2"],
"sin": ["TestingBlockL", "TestingBlockR2"]}
]
After removing the participant groups, like in the above block sequence, the preview works again.
