stimuli of pictures with a random prob sequence
Posted by: cynthiayu316 - 11-23-2020, 04:09 AM - Forum: Experimental Design - Replies (7)

Hi, I am working on designing an online experiment. There are three stimuli and the probability of winning the reward from the stimuli is fixed. But for each trial, the probability of which ice hold corresponds to which fixed probability will be randomly assigned. So is there a way when designing the experiment, I could randomly generate sequences for different prob and assign them to different stimuli? For example: for the first trial, 30% for left stimuli, 50% for the middle one, 80% for the right one. Then the next trial, 30% for middle, etc) I check the documentation but did not find a parameter that could solve the question mentioned above. I was wondering id there any way I could achieve that? Thank you!

A question on active experiment sessions
Posted by: Zhe Gao - 11-19-2020, 06:40 PM - Forum: Study Grammar & Management - Replies (1)

If I add the codes of a function to a task which has an active session, will the new function be automatically available in that active session?

Or I should publish a new session so as to activate the new function?

Thank you!

  Hide progress bar
Posted by: [email protected] - 11-18-2020, 06:25 PM - Forum: Study Grammar & Management - Replies (2)

Hi,

Would it be possible to hide the progress bar for the participants? I found it quite misleading. The progress bar seems like there is still a long way to go but actually it's one more click to finish the experiment. Thank you!

Best,
Zoe

setting up pre-requisites & exporting audio stimuli
Posted by: arielchan - 11-17-2020, 03:33 PM - Forum: Study Grammar & Management - Replies (3)

1) I'm on a study of which I'm the collaborator but not the creator. When I try to make a copy of the study, I can duplicate the definitions of the stimuli and responses but not the actual audio and video stimuli. Is there a way that I can export all the audio stimuli from the original experiment/transfer the audio stimuli from the original to the new experiment?
2) When I set up a new session for an experiment, there's a part where I can set up the "Pre-requisites and anti-prerequisites". It says "Use the control key to select more than one study. This is selecting prerequisite studies." However, it seems that I was not able to select any studies even when I press the control key. Could you please provide me with some guidance?

response type as a single choice image
Posted by: jchough1 - 11-16-2020, 10:08 PM - Forum: Experimental Design - Replies (12)

So for the experimental design that I am working on, I want to run through and present a sequence of 300 images one by one under a set duration of time, and record if the user clicks the image (as well as the response time associated with it).  However, based on what I can see in the grammar reference page, as well as my own testing of the code, there is no response type that is suited for this purpose.  The closest option that I can think of would be to use the response type "choice", with the image that we wish to present as the response, but that would make the stimulus redundant, and the program forces me to have to create a second option besides the single image that I wish to present.
Is there any way to achieve what I am looking to accomplish?
Here is a link to the study we are referring to if there is still any confusion:

  study skipping a part
Posted by: nkhaloo - 11-16-2020, 01:38 PM - Forum: Study Grammar & Management - Replies (2)

Hello! My study seems to just skip a huge portion when I preview it. I am not sure why because everything seems to be inputted correctly. If you guys know any common reasons why this might happen please let me know. Thank you!!

early exit or pause option during testing?
Posted by: [email protected] - 11-16-2020, 01:16 PM - Forum: Experimental Design - Replies (1)

Hi,
I am creating my own experiment in Finding Five, wondering if there is any function to save data EVEN IF any participants pause the testing and/or exit in middle of the testing. We are going to test older adults so we need to consider what else we could incorporate in the task design and wonder if Finding Five can support the function. Thank you.

private study page or link to the experiment
Posted by: [email protected] - 11-16-2020, 01:09 PM - Forum: Study Grammar & Management - Replies (1)

Hi,
Our lab wants to keep our study page (i.e., the entering page for our study and task) private because we would recruit our own participants based on our email contacts. So we wonder if we could set up our own private page/link so that our participants can follow the link that we will share with them in order to start the experiment.
Your response will be appreciate.

Lexical decision with yoked pair stimuli
Posted by: [email protected] - 11-16-2020, 09:00 AM - Forum: Study Grammar & Management - Replies (9)

I am creating a study with priming and a lexical decision task and I have arranged to use yoked pairs of audio primes and text targets. I also have 2 separate lexical decision blocks for 2 separate groups of participants, so that they only hear a subset (half of each of 2 types) of the primes.

Problem 1:
I am stuck on how to code the response options. In the tutorial on using yoked pairs, RESPONSES is set to "lexical decision": Is this a response I would have to create or is it built-in? I can't find any information on that in the RESPONSES section of the site. If it is a response I must define, how do you set which targets are YES/WORD and which are NO/NOT WORD without having separate responses for these two options? I know how to create separate responses for WORD and NOT WORD, but I don't see how to use these response options with the design I am working with, where I have 2 blocks for participant groups, but would also need 2 blocks for responses, for each participant group (?).

I think I would have to figure out a way to create 4 blocks: WORD and NOT WORD targets for each group, but then I would need to keep my primes and targets yoked, while randomizing the order of the yoked trials that are WORD and NOT WORD, while also keeping my 2 participant blocks separate. The NOT WORD trials are fillers and are the same for both participant groups, but the WORD trials are different.

Do you have any advice or guidance, or other relevant tutorials?

Lightbulb Turn off typo detection in text responses
Posted by: [email protected] - 11-16-2020, 03:15 AM - Forum: Experimental Design - Replies (5)

Hello there,

This maybe a quick question: is it possible to turn off the typo detection function in text responses? In other words, we noticed that typos will be underlined in red in text responses. I have attached a screenshot here.
Thank you for your help!
