Tokenized Text Font + Unnecessary Hint Screen - S Sommer - 11-14-2023 Hi! I have two questions about tokenized text: 1. Is it possible to change the tokenized text font to match the normal text font? Tokenized text is automatically showing up in a different font for me. 2. Is it possible to begin a self-paced tokenized text block immediately with the first token instead of a blank screen with "hint" instructions? As of now, when my non-tokenized block ends, the participant sees a blank screen with "press the space key to advance" at the bottom. I would like the first token to automatically be shown. Thanks in advance for any guidance! RE: Tokenized Text Font + Unnecessary Hint Screen - Ting - 11-14-2023 Hello! Thanks for trying out FindingFive! 1. The tokenized text stimulus is in a "fixed-width" font as opposed to the "variable-width" fonts that regular text is in. This is because we want to maintain a visual stability when the words are gradually revealed as the masks disappear from the screen. If we use the regular variable-width font, the whole sentence would act like a caterpillar moving forward - it expands and contracts in an odd way. I don't know this makes sense! 2. There seems to be some questions here. First of all, you can turn off the hint if that's needed: https://docs.findingfive.com/en/grammar/stimuli/tokenized_text#hint You may also want to try "mode": "masked" which might make the whole experience less jarring? https://docs.findingfive.com/en/grammar/stimuli/tokenized_text#mode Let us know if you have further questions! Got it. The caterpillar situation sounds undesirable! 2. I am attaching a screenshot of what I am referring to. This blank white screen shows up before any text, which is useless to my participants. Is there any way to remove it and just begin right away with text on the screen? RE: Tokenized Text Font + Unnecessary Hint Screen - Ting - 11-15-2023 ah I see what you mean. Hmm...right now we don't have a feature to show the first token at the getgo, but that's a good idea. We'll implement it for the next grammar update (which is usually slated for the beginning of the spring semester; we do two updates each year). Would using the "mode": "masked" feature be a reasonable workaround? That way, the screen won't be blank, but instead the whole sentence will be displayed in a masked string. It's less awkward that way. RE: Tokenized Text Font + Unnecessary Hint Screen - S Sommer - 11-15-2023 (11-15-2023, 11:36 AM)Ting Wrote: ah I see what you mean. RE: Tokenized Text Font + Unnecessary Hint Screen - Ting - 11-15-2023 You are most welcome! Happy to hear it helps. |
